I finally have a Chinese name, much thanks to my Chinese coworker Apple.  My Chinese name is 赵 锐凡 (Zhao Rui Fan)...carries the meaning of sharp, intelligent, fighting spirit.....I ran Apple's suggested name by some other Chinese coworkers, and they like it. I like it too, so this is now my Chinese name. Close friends can call me Rui Fan, and mom can call me Fan Fan.....Zhao is my "family name" (and, of course, you can always just call me Brad)  LOL

    赵锐凡 of Zhao Rui Fan is pronounced ZHOW(falling tone), RWAY (falling tone), FAHN (rising tone)....that's the best I can describe it with a computer keyboard (the Chinese R is a bit of a challenge, hard to describe). Every Chinese character is one syllable.

    Robin, you should learn PinYin LOL :-)
    PinYin is a Godsend for those of westerners who want to learn Chinese! Thanks to the Chinese Communist literacy reform program which introduced it in the 1950s!!

    Any western books to "learn Chinese" which don't teach PinYin are best ignored....BECAUSE you can't learn Mandarin without learning the 4 tones...you just CAN'T! and books that purport to do this are practically USELESS!! The TONES are CRUCIAL to the Chinese language...if you don't believe me, look up "shi" in a Chinese dictionary, and see how many meanings you find!!!!
