CCTV today said that there is a "mysterious haze descending upon northern China". I think I can solve the "mystery". It's COAL-INDUCED SMOG!!!!!! Not so pretty, but not really "mysterious".
In other news, last week is the first time since I've been in Beijing that a mysterious white substance fell from the sky and blanketed the city landscape (i.e. it snowed)
Yuk. Did you feel a difference on arrival? Whenever I get to go out of the city I always feel like I'm choking with pollution just driving back into the city. I can only imagine how it must be in Beijing as well but you always become accustomed to it when you're in the midst of day to day living.
ReplyDeleteDidn't notice on arrival. Steady phlegm accumulation with time. I know now why Beijingers are known as public spitters....During Olympics, there was a government-sponsored "anti-spitting" campaign, but really, I never spat before....but I do now (try to do it inconspicuosly, but you just accumulate phlegm from the bad air, want to get rid of it!!LOL)
